Artist Statement:
The sculpture collection reflects my perception of the short story, The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka. Gregor refers to his reading table as his favorite piece of furniture before he metamorphosed so I felt this piece should be a warm and brighter color to emphasis his happier past. This influenced my decision for the orange color. The placement of the table isn't sturdy and the chair is fallen over because Gregor's sister took this furniture out of his room. The bed shape at the bottom starts out larger and brighter and continues to get smaller and darker to express how he used to have stability, but he slowly loses everything after his metamorphosis. I chose to represent Gregor as a clock because Gregor ultimately dies at the end of the story.
